Literary Development Awards

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers' Centre, we are excited to announce brand new Literary Development Awards in 2025! This generous, privately sponsored award will support WA Writers working towards their first full-length publication!
Eligibility:
All WA writers who have not been a recipient of grant funding in 2025 and who are working on a first full-length work for publication in one of the three categories:

Poetry;
-
Fiction novel length or collection of short fiction;

Non-fiction including memoir.
Prizes:
The winner in each of the three categories will receive $1,000.00* award money to use in the publication process, a one and a half hour mentoring session with the relevant selector, as well as a complimentary publication workshopping session with Dragonfly Publishing.
*$500 will be paid upon receiving the award and the balance when a 6-month report on progress is submitted to KSP.

Entries open: Monday, March 17 2025
Entries close: Friday, May 16 2025

Application FAQs
I do not have a complete manuscript yet. Can I still apply?
These awards are intended to support writers working on their first full-length work with intention of publishing.
What do I need to prepare before applying?
We will ask you to provide your author biographical note (max 100 words), an author headshot, letter of introduction , project details and a 10-page sample of your work. For submission guidelines and supporting document please click HERE.
What do you consider full-length work?
Fiction and literary non-fiction: 50,000 words minimum
Poetry collections: 50 pages minimum
Who are the judges?
To ensure a fair and unbiased judging, the judges will remain anonymous until the winners are announced.
I have received a KSP Residency or Fellowship in the past. Can I enter the Literary Development awards?
If you are a WA Writer working towards publishing your first full-length work and have not received funding or grants in 2025 - Yes.
I don’t have any previous publications or awards and I have never been awarded writing fellowships or residencies; can I still apply?
Definitely.
Is there a cost to apply?
Yes. You will be asked to pay a $15 fee through Submittable.
When will I know if I am a winner in one of the categories?
Successful applicants will be notified by email when the selection process is completed.
